I BET Awards 2026 si sono tenuti domenica 28 giugno al Peacock Theater di Los Angeles, condotti da Druski. La 26ª edizione della cerimonia ha consegnato verdetti che, almeno nelle categorie rap, non lasciano molto spazio al dibattito: Let God Sort ‘Em Out dei Clipse porta a casa l’Album of the Year, Kendrick Lamar si aggiudica il Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, e Cardi B rimette il proprio nome dove non era da anni. Ma la serata appartiene a Teyana Taylor, che ha trascinato via quattro premi in una notte sola.
Clipse, Kendrick Lamar, Teyana Taylor e non solo: tutti i vincitori del BET Awards 2026
Let God Sort ‘Em Out era già stato nominato ai Grammy di febbraio nelle categorie Album of the Year e Best Rap Album senza portare nulla a casa. Il BET colma il vuoto. Il ritorno di Pusha T e Malice con un progetto che non ha fatto concessioni di nessun tipo viene premiato in una categoria che comprendeva nomi come AM I THE DRAMA? di Cardi B, The Fall-Off di J. Cole, DON’T TAP THE GLASS di Tyler, the Creator e The Romantic di Bruno Mars. Il fatto che i Clipse abbiano vinto in questo campo dice qualcosa sullo stato della cultura rap attuale: certi lavori si impongono anche quando non cavalcano nessuna tendenza commerciale. Non è finita comunque qui: i fratelli Thornton hanno vinto anche le categorie Best Group e Best Collaboration, quest’ultima per la hit Chains & Whips con K.Dot.
É proprio Kendrick Lamar a portarsi a casa il Best Male Hip-Hop Artist in una lineup che comprendeva Drake, J. Cole, A$AP Rocky, Don Toliver, DaBaby, Baby Keem, BigXthaPlug e T.I. Non è una sorpresa, ma rimane una conferma pesante: dopo GNX e tutto quello che è venuto con esso nel 2025/26, il suo status è cristallizzato anche nelle stanze delle votazioni.
Per Cardi B è la terza vittoria nella categoria, la prima dal 2019. Il ciclo di AM I THE DRAMA? le ha ridato visibilità in un campo in cui Doechii, GloRilla e Megan Thee Stallion avevano occupato quasi tutto lo spazio negli ultimi anni. Il BET le ridà il trofeo che più di ogni altro racconta dove sta il rap questo momento.
Fuori dal rap ma impossibile non citarla: Teyana Taylor è andata via dal Peacock Theater con Icon of the Year, Best Actress, Video Director of the Year e il nuovo Fashion Vanguard Award. Il 2026 è un anno che la riguarda trasversalmente, tra una nomination agli Oscar e un Golden Globe per One Battle After Another. Il momento più memorabile della serata è stato il suo: la presenza di Janet Jackson come presentatrice del premio Icon of the Year era tenuta segreta persino a Taylor stessa, che alla vista della leggenda ha letteralmente perso la parola sul palco.
Nelle categorie R&B, Kehlani vince il Best Female R&B/Pop Artist superando SZA, vincitrice delle ultime tre edizioni. Folded è stata tra i pezzi più significativi dell’anno e il BET lo riconosce. Leon Thomas porta a casa il Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, primo riconoscimento nella categoria per lui, battendo Chris Brown (otto vittorie storiche in questa categoria), Usher e Bruno Mars. Olivia Dean si aggiudica il Best New Artist.
Sul fronte cinema, Sinners di Ryan Coogler vince il Best Movie in una categoria che includeva anche One Battle After Another e il sudafricano Highest 2 Lowest. Michael B. Jordan porta a casa il Best Actor, superando una nomination che comprendeva Denzel Washington, Colman Domingo e Damson Idris.
Le performance della serata
T.I., fresco di Kill The King, ha aperto la serata con Top Back e Let ‘Em Know, portando sul palco il figlio King Harris per quest’ultima. Cardi B ha eseguito una medley di quattro brani da AM I THE DRAMA?: ErrTime, Hello, Check Please e Pretty & Petty, arrivando sul palco su una sport bike avvolta nei led e chiudendo il set tornandoci sopra nel mezzo del numero.
Don Toliver ha proposto E85 e Body dal suo Octane, mentre Kehlani ha eseguito una versione ridotta all’essenziale di Folded con Jamie Foxx alle tastiere e la figlia di Foxx, Anelise Bishop, alla chitarra. Raye ha eseguito Nightingale Lane dal suo secondo album This Music May Contain Hope, ricevendo una standing ovation alla fine dell’esibizione.
French Montana, Max B e Rick Ross hanno condiviso il palco in uno dei momenti più attesi per chi segue il rap della vecchia scuola. Tra gli altri performer della serata: Nas, Doechii, Common, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah, Tems, Baby Keem con Momo Boyd, Rapsody, Ari Lennox, Durand Bernarr e BJ the Chicago Kid.
La cerimonia ha incluso un tributo a Lauryn Hill, che ha ricevuto il Living Legend Icon Award, con la partecipazione tra gli altri di The War and Treaty, Tanya Blount, Doechii, SZA, Tems, Doja Cat, Nas, Lizzo, Rapsody, Queen Latifah e i figli di Hill stessa. D’Angelo, scomparso in ottobre dopo una malattia, è stato onorato con un tributo introdotto dai suoi figli: RAYE, Durand Bernarr, Ari Lennox, BJ the Chicago Kid e George Clinton hanno preso il palco per ricordarlo. Clive Davis, scomparso il 22 giugno a 94 anni, è stato ricordato durante l’In Memoriam con Erica Campbell che ha eseguito un medley di I Love the Lord, uno dei brani preferiti del produttore, reso celebre da Whitney Houston.
