Le nominations per i Grammy Awards 2023 sono finalmente arrivate: scopriamole assieme, al solito con un focus sulla musica rap e sui rapper nominati nelle varie categorie.

Il rap ancora presente nelle nominations dei Grammy Awards 2023: non mancano le polemiche

Kendrick Lamar e Beyoncé hanno tutte le possibilità di essere tra i protagonisti principali il prossimo 5 febbraio quando verrà consegnati i grammofoni d’oro presso la Crypto.com Arena di Los Angeles. Il rapper di Compton ha infatti ottenuto ben otto nominations grazie al suo Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, mentre l’ex Destiny’s Child con il suo ritmato RENAISSANCE ne ha ricevuta una in più.

Nonostante ciò, come spesso succede negli ultimi anni, non sono mancate le polemiche nel nostro settore, soprattutto per l’attesa categoria Best Rap Album.

Sembra già infatti lontano anni luce il momento in cui la Recording Academy si rendeva conto dell’esistenza di artisti come Freddie Gibbs, Jay Electronica, D Smoke, Cordae, Nipsey Hussle o Royce da 5’9″. Inserire God Did di Dj Khaled o Come Home The Kids Miss You di Jack Harlow – seppur entrambi con elementi positivi all’interno – lasciando fuori ottimi dischi come The Forever Story di JID, 2000 di Joey Badass oppure SSS di Freddie Gibbs, sottolinea nuovamente quale sia l’aspetto principale su cui punta la giuria dei Grammy.

Sono tanti i rapper che negli ultimi anni stanno prendendo le distanze da questo premio, in particolare Drake e The Weekend che poche settimane fa non hanno nemmeno voluto presentare i loro dischi.  Così come sono diversi quelli che si sono sfogati sui social poco aver visto come nuovamente è stato trattato il rap nelle nomination dei Grammy Awards 2023.

Uno su tutti Denzel Curry, autore del bellissimo Melt My Eyez See Your Future – di cui ce ne ha parlato lui stesso QUI –  che ha così commentato su Twitter:

“Glo Rilla Deserves it But For The Rap Album Category I can literally Name you 10 other albums that were actually good congrats to kdot and push but all that other shit come on bruh… This shit bout money at the end of the day so if that’s what it comes down to I’m going get my bread up In the words of the Late Great Kimbo Slice Man lemme get ma bread. My Album literally tied with one of the albums that was nominated for a Grammy and I still got robbed All my homies that came out with Top Notch solid albums this Year Got Robbed They don’t care about the culture They only care about building the majors”

Rimane comunque la (scontata) soddisfazione di vedere Kendrick gareggiare per i premi più ambiti (album, brano e singolo dell’anno) e Pusha T in corsa per il migliore album, oltre che Tobe Nwigwe nella categoria Best New Artist, dove tra l’altro sono presenti Latto e i Måneskin.

Siamo certi che le polemiche continueranno da qui al momento della premiazione ma, nell’attesa, vediamo insieme nel dettaglio le nomination ai Grammy Awards di nostro interesse:
