Nel suo nuovo libro Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter 50 Cent ne ha per tutti: da Lloyd Banks e Tony Yayo, passando per Kanye West e non solo.
Il 28 aprile 2020 50 Cent è tornato finalmente a pubblicare materiale inedito. Sfortunatamente non stiamo parlando di musica, almeno non direttamente, bensì del suo nuovo libro edito Amistad/HarperCollins: Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter, 224 pagine in cui – tramite la sua esperienza personale di business man spocchioso quale è – fornisce consigli su come raggiungere i propri obiettivi nonostante le difficoltà passate.
Per raccontare ciò ha toccato diversi argomenti, compreso il suo ormai ex-collettivo: la G-Unit. A far discutere sono state alcune affermazioni su quelli che fin da giovane gli sono stati più vicini, Lloyd Banks e Tony Yayo:
“I always felt that if I had maybe done a better job teaching Banks and Yayo how to evolve and change their habits, they each would be in better places right now While I was out hustling, Banks was more content staying on his porch and watching the world from there. … Banks wanted things to come to him the guy has ‘Lazy Lloyd’ tattooed on his arm. He literally wears his laziness on his sleeve.”
“If I got into a disagreement with another artist, Yayo’s reaction was, ‘Let’s just bang ’em,’ because that would have been his response back in the neighborhood. Time and time again I’d have to tell him, ‘Yayo, we can’t do that. Nothing else is gonna work if we’re just running around doing dumb shit.’”
Mentalità differenti dalla sua – almeno con il passare degli anni – e tra i motivi che hanno reso questo collettivo come uno dei maggiori rimpianti di diversi ascoltatori di rap americano.
Tuttavia, sono molto i riferimenti che Fiddy fa in questo libro, tra cui spiccano quelli riguardanti Jay-Z, Rihanna e Kanye West, compresa la sfida del 2007 per chi in una settimana avrebbe venduto più dischi: Graduation e Curtis uscirono lo stesso giorno, l’11 settembre 2007. Vinse Kanye.
“Today, selling 691,000 units your first week would be considered a massive success, but at the time the narrative was that Kanye had soundly defeated me. Of course he did beat me, but what the public couldn’t see was that I’d still earned a major victory.”
